The Arhaeological exavations Skopsko (Kale) with their specific features made it necessary for us to open this web page in the course of the very excavations. The large scope of the excavations (around 300 people involved), the exposed position of the location in the very centre of Skopje, as well as the significant interest of the media, public and the scholars made us offer everybody the possibility to follow the course of the archaeological excavations via this web site, with the most important discoveries that occur.
We are aware that by opening this site we endanger to some extent the copy rights of the researchers themselves; nevertheless, we decided to aim for other, according to us, much higher goals on this account. We have decided on a new and unusual practice in the archaeological work, which should provide as much research transparency as possible, and accessibility of the discoveries before they are scholarly processed and publicly presented. In this way, we open this site for the purpose of broad promotion both of the Skopje fortress location and the archaeology as a discipline and its social dimension and humanitarian mission in the development of the general awareness about the significance of the cultural heritage and its proper treatment.
By opening of this site, only two months since the beginning of the excavations, we are convinced that we will fulfil these goals, especially if the necessary continuity of the archaeological work and conservation activities of Skopje fortress is also provided in the coming years.
